We have an update from down state!
West Noble sophomore Graysen Ruch has completed his run at the IHSAA Cross Country State Finals, placing 103rd overall with at time of 16:26.7. Not too shabby considering there were 249 runners in the field and Ruch was just a couple tenths from cracking the top 100 and just over five seconds back of landing inside the top 80.
Of note from the race was a slight upset at the finish line for the state championship, where Springs Valley's Calvin Seitz held off a hard-charging Noah Bontrager of Westview in what was a photo finish, Seitz getting a slight lean at the line to claim the title at 15:01.3. Bontrager had come into the state meet as the top seed and was a two-time track distance event champion in the spring.
Congrats to Ruch, running in his first IHSAA Cross Country State Finals! And special thanks to 'Mrs. Coach Photography - Jen Flora - for capturing some moments on site this afternoon in Terre Haute!

Absolute heartbreak tonight in Ligonier.
A two-score lead evaporated in the second half as Angola rallied to knock out West Noble from the Class 3-A sectional, 21-20.
West Noble had receiving touchdowns from McKale Bottles and Trevor Steele along with a rushing score from Trey Shisler. The Hornets scored the go-ahead touchdown with two minutes left in the game and held the Chargers on downs in the final gasp for the hosts.
Angola will host Garrett next Friday in the sectional championship.
The Chargers' season ends at 8-3 overall, but one of the largest senior classes in program history will go into the record books as a two-time NECC division champion and winners of 36 regular season games in their four years.
Thank you to the seniors who have left an indelible mark on the program!

A bittersweet day for West Noble cross country, but ultimately, a good day.
The team season ended for both the boys and girls teams, the girls finishing 12th and the boys 14th in the team standings at Saturday's New Haven Regional.
However, among those results, sophomore Graysen Ruch qualified for the IHSAA State Finals by finishing 16th overall with a time of 16:20, landing among the top 15 runners not from a qualifying team.
The Lady Chargers had a near miss for a state finalist as freshman Karla Dominguez placed 37th overall with a time of 19:39, but was 16th in the individual standings for the non-team qualifiers, unfortunately coming in behind a trio of runners that got her at the line by less than a second. That puts Dominguez in the awkward holding pattern of hoping to get a callback from the state if someone can't make it to next weekend.
So in the interim, salute to Ruch and his qualification for the IHSAA State Finals, see what you can do on the famed LaVern Gibson course next weekend!!!
